How exactly do you receive your essence and xp from older saves when you restart with this update?

Does anyone remember how to unlock the scene with Roushk at the waterfall area?

Under preferences, does the lock icon indicate we can secure our choices (like position, sexuality, etc) and not change as we progress in the game? If so, that is helpful in maintaining what we pick despite our choices!

Additionally, what are the locked boxes at the end of each affinity character? Are those for a later update or are they unlockable in the game??

I'm curious if anyone was able to defeat the king on the first try or was it set up for us to fail in order to progress the storyline. 

I'm just wondering if only 7 of the 12 people are available at the moment? I've done their work, duel, and strip lucky but their affinity isn't increasing, so I'm wondering if they aren't released yet. Thank you.
